3 Original oil-printed color plates by Henry B Ashemad – 1859
ILLUSTRATED BOOK OF NATURAL HISTORY in 4 parts for American Sunday-School Union: Philadelphia.

Originally printed as 4 volumes dedicated to a class of animals, mammals, birds, reptiles and fish. While the depictions of animals themselves seem to be "oil printed," the backgrounds suggest some hand-coloring as well.

“A” condition. No stains, tears or folds.

These are ORIGINAL 1859 OIL-PRINTED COLOR PLATES NOT REPRODUCTIONS

Size: 15 1/2" x 17 1/2"

Frames:

Each frame is custom cut from a single solid block of seasoned Cherry wood. The Left and Right sides and the Top and Bottom are matched mirror images of the opposite side.

The frame width is determined by the picture so is not a standard measurement.

The boards are then cut to thickness and the rabbet depth is specifically made for the picture and matt. 
 
During the finishing process each side remains matched. Numerous coats of Tung Oil with Cherry Stain is applied to bring out the depth of the color to enhance the picture.

Each frame is unique to the picture.

Each Picture is mounted on Acid Free backer boards and protected by 2.5mm glass. A Dust cover is attached to the back of each frame.
